GPA, a term that we have all been hearing since secondary school, stands for Grade Point Average. It refers to a student’s score on average. It could either be represented as a number or a letter.

CGPA, another heard term, stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average. It indicates the overall academic performance of a student. It is generally
GPA (Grade Point Average) and CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) are both measures of a student's academic performance.
Key differences between GPA and CGPA
Time Period: GPA is the average of grades obtained in a single academic term or semester, while CGPA is the average of grades obtained over the entire duration of a program.
Calculation: GPA is calculated by taking into account the grades obtained in individual courses and the number of credit hours for each course. CGPA is calculated by summing up the total number of grade points obtained in all semesters and dividing by the total number of credit hours.
Relevance: GPA is useful for getting a quick understanding of a student's performance in a particular term, but CGPA is more important for measuring a student's overall performance in a program.
Importance: GPA may be important for getting admitted to some colleges, but CGPA is more critical for getting admitted to graduate schools or for obtaining scholarships or financial aid.
Range: The range of GPA and CGPA varies depending on the grading scale used by the institution. However, in most cases, GPA ranges from 0 to 4 and CGPA ranges from 0 to 10.

Difference Between GPA and CGPA
Grade Point Average and Cumulative Grade Point Average are both used to compute the performance of a student in a course or a subject. GPA indicates the performance of the student in each semester whereas CGPA indicates the performance of the student in all the semesters in a year.
Hence, in order to score a high CGPA, a student must perform exceptionally well in all the semesters and work hard to earn a high GPA as well.
